Natural Disasters

An avalanche occurs when a mass of snow falls down from the mountainside. That is because

new snow, which is not wet, falls on a more heavy snow layer. This causes that the layer of snow is too big and it start to slide down toward the base of mountain. One Of the biggest avalanches in world history was in Italian – Austrian Alps. During World War II, Italy and Austria had military bases in the Alps – soon finding that bombs and enemy fire weren’t the only threats. Heavy snow instigated a series of avalanches in the Tyro region causing the deaths of 1 0,000 soldiers on what became known as White Friday 1916.

Of course one of the natural disasters is an earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or temblor). Earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth’s crust that creates seismic waves. The largest earthquake, which killed 1655 people, thousand of them was injured and millions were left homeless, was in Chile in 1960. Quake, which magnitude was 9. 5, trigger a tsunami, which killed 61 people in Hawaii, 138 in Japan and 32 in the Philippines also suffered $550 million LESS in damage. Volcanic eruptions are the Earth’s most powerful and destructive forces.

An eruption begins when pressure on a magma hammer forces magma up through the volcano’s vents. The explosion of Mount Tambala, which is still active, is one of the tallest peaks in the Indonesian archipelago. The eruption reached its peak in April 181 5, when it exploded so loudly that it was heard on Sumatra Island, more than 1 ,930 km away. The death toll from the eruption was estimated at 71 ,OHO people, and clouds of heavy ash descended on many far-away islands. A flood is also one of the natural disasters. It is an overflow of water that submerges land.

Flooding is a situation in which an area of land becomes covered with water, or example of heavy rain. When the Chinese Human He (Yellow) River in 1931 has flooded it causes from to 3,700,000 deaths. The Human He River is prone to flooding because of the broad expanse of plain that lies around it. The opposite to flood adverse event is drought. Drought is a period of abnormally dry weather, which can cause famine. The severity of the drought depends on the degree of moisture deficiency, the duration and the size of the affected area.

Scientists and historians are calling the current dry spell the worst drought since the sass. More than 60 percent of the continental united States is in drought conditions. The current drought is a ‘flash drought,” so named because the time frame has been on the scale of weeks to months, rather than years. Hailstorms are falls of rain drops that arrive as ice, rather than melting before they hit the ground. The biggest hailstorm in history was in June 22, 2003 when a storm pounded Aurora, Nebraska dropping tennis-sized hail at will.

The largest hailstone recovered from that storm officially measured 7 inches in diameter and had a circumference of 18. 75 inches, this after a good chunk of it was broken off upon impact and mom it was lost to melting before it could be measured. A tornado is a violent, dangerous, rotating column of air that is in contact with both the surface of the earth. Tornadoes come in many shapes and sizes, but are typically in the form of a visible condensation funnel, whose narrow end touches the earth.

Most tornadoes have wind speeds less than 177 km/h, are approximately 80 m across, and travel several kilometers before dissipating. The most extreme tornadoes can attain wind speeds of more than 480 km/h, stretch more than 3 km across. The most harmful tornado was in Adulator- Austria, Bangladesh in April 26, 1989. A 1300 people died from this tornado, which was a mile wide and cut a swath of destruction 50 miles long. The injuries were estimated to be around 12,000. Due to poor housing and construction standards, the tornado completely destroyed virtually every structure it touched.

A hurricane is a type of tropical cyclone or severe tropical storm. A typical cyclone is accompanied with thunderstorm. Hurricane Strain was the costliest hurricane in US history as well as one of the 5 most deadliest ever recorded. Knocking out levies in Louisiana Strain caused over 80% of New Orleans to flood before moving into the Eratosthenes United States dumping rain all across the area. By far the largest natural disaster to ever hit the US Hurricane Strain is 380 billion (2008 SAID) in damages and killed 1 ,836 people with 705 still missing.

Wildfires are large fires which often start in Willard areas. Common causes include lightning and drought but wildfires may also be started by human negligence or arson. They can spread to populated areas and can thus be a threat to humans and property, as well as wildlife. Loon’s historical fire is probably the most-famous. This fire began in a baker’s shop on September 2, 666 and lasted for several days. Surprisingly, the Great London Fire has no reported death toll. It destroyed more than 13,000 structures. London was also a city largely built of wood, another kindling waiting to burn.
